Our approach
HearRelay is a sound monitor for iPhone and iPad, designed with privacy first. The app collects no personal data. It never sends audio, recordings, or usage information to our servers, and it contains no tracking, analytics, or advertising SDKs. Its App Store “App Privacy” label reports “Data Not Collected” across every category.
Scope of this policy
This policy applies to HearRelay (the “App”), an iOS / iPadOS application provided by CONEX, K.K. (“we”, “us”). For how our corporate website as a whole handles information, please see the separate site-wide privacy policy.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect, store, or transmit any information through the App, including:
- Contact details such as your name, email address, or phone number (except where you voluntarily send them to reach us)
- Location, device identifiers, or advertising IDs
- Audio captured by the microphone, or recording files
- Usage data, interaction logs, crash analytics, or telemetry
What is processed on your device and local network
All of the App’s core functions complete entirely on your device or within the same local network.
- Audio — Audio captured by the microphone is processed for real-time monitoring but is never sent to a server. In a pair connection, the audio is end-to-end encrypted and is only decrypted between devices on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Pair discovery — To discover the other device, the App uses iCloud Key-Value storage (within your Apple Account space) and Bonjour on the local network. These are used only to establish the connection; we never receive their contents.
- Settings — App settings are stored on your device (and your Apple Account sync space).
Handling of recordings
On the listening device, you can record the monitored audio locally (only with your explicit action).
- Recordings are stored on the device only and cannot be uploaded, exported, or shared. They are never sent to our servers.
- They are automatically deleted after 24 hours by default. A recording you choose to “Keep” remains on the device until you delete it.
- We perform no voiceprint extraction, speaker identification, transcription, biometric identification, or cloud analysis whatsoever.
Why each permission is used
| Permission | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Microphone | Monitoring (capturing audio) |
| Local Network | Sending/receiving in Pair mode |
| iCloud (sign-in) | Discovering the other device in Pair mode |
Each permission is used only for its respective function; we do not collect or transmit anything beyond that purpose.
Children and third-party voices
The App may capture the voices of others for uses such as a baby monitor or noise check, but we do not collect or receive that audio (processing stays on the device and local network). Laws on recording and monitoring vary by region and may require the consent of those involved. You are responsible for lawful use (see the Terms of Use). The App is not directed to children under 13.
Third-party services
- Apple / App Store — Purchases, billing, and refunds are handled by Apple. We do not receive credit card numbers or any other billing information. Apple’s handling is governed by Apple’s privacy policy.
- We include no other third-party SDKs for analytics, advertising, or tracking.
Data retention and deletion
Because no data of yours exists on our servers, there is no personal data for us to retain or delete on our side. Recordings and settings on your device can be deleted by you, by removing the App or through your device.
International data transfers
Because processing completes on your device and local network, no cross-border data transfer by us takes place.
Changes to this policy
We may revise this policy as features or applicable laws change. If there are material changes, we will note them on this page and in the App’s update notes. The revision date appears at the top of this page.
